Warner Brothers really does deserve quite a bit of sympathy. They are trying to get their DC movie universe up and running, but the bar has been set so impossibly high. The comic book war between Marvel and DC has raged for 50 years and through most of that time, Marvel was always on top. Poor Warner Brothers is going to have to dig deep to compete with Disney’s Marvel films.
Re-casting Batman when he was so revered as portrayed by Christian Bale was not easy. The choice of Ben Affleck was not well-received, and the fact that Bale has since begun loudly regretting his choice doesn’t help, either.
The truly difficult task, which really feels unfair, is the casting of The Joker. Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker was more than a fun summer movie performance. The character resonated with an entire generation, including Jared Haftel.
Apparently Warner Brothers is still looking at Jared Leto to play the character in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” film. The guy is an eccentric, an acclaimed actor in his own right, but how can anyone be expected to follow Heath Ledger?
Leto is only saying that he has sworn to keep his mouth shut. It does seem to look like he will be playing The Joker alongside Margot Robbie as Joker’s demented girlfriend, Harley Quinn. The addition of Harley might separate this version of the character enough for fans to accept Leto without unfairly comparing him to Ledger.
