Remember where you came from, because it helps you to know were your going.

Remember when we were brought here in shackles only to become slaves for the European race
Today some of us are still in shackles because of our ignorance of the law and the unwillingness to change our sinful ways
Remember when we had to ride in the back of the bus; because we were thought not good enough to sit anywhere else
Thanks to Rosa Parks we can sit anywhere we want on the bus without the threat of going to jail
Remember when our first and last thought of the day was to worship the Lord in song and prayer; even though it had to be done in secrecy
Now that were are able to worship openly a lot of the church houses or still half empty; that’s because many have chosen to put their religion in the back seat were we once had to be seated
Remember when they told us we weren’t worthy to vote
We were given that right after the many marches of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and we still don’t show up at the polls
Remember when our grandparents were not allowed to read, write or even attend school
Many of the children today are dropping out because they do not want to follow the rules
Remember when all the neighbors on your block were like one big family
I could not tell you anything about any of the neighbors that now surround me
Remember when the Black Panthers use to patrol the streets at night to keep us safe from those that wanted to do us harm
We now have the bloods and the crips patrolling the street and killing up our loved ones
Remember when we use to say one day we will be rich and help all the colored people that are poor
Now we get a little bit of money and leave the city because we don’t want them living next door
Remember when we had LOVE, TRUST, HOPE, WISDOM, FAITH and JESUS
We now have hatred, wealth, greed, pride, envy and lust
Remember when!
