I had the pleasure of meeting Me'lange she's a strong force in the community and the message in her music is reality that we all can relate with.

Me'lange Lavonne's mission is raising awareness about homosexuals like
herself who want to paint a beautiful picture of what the majority of us represent.
We are lesbian wives, gay husbands, doctors, lawyers, artists, parents; we are just
like straight society and should be allowed all the rights they have. Me'lange,
currently working on a sophomore album due out later this Fall, articulates this
through her song lyrics. Her album will address the discrimination in all aspects
of the lifestyle. Her accomplishments include doing shows for AIDS benefits,
youth organizations, and cancer causes.
Me'lange was approached on myspace regarding doing the script for the series “Don’t Go” produce by Amber Sharp
Q: What were your thoughts after you agreed to do the “Don’t Go” Pilot with Amber Sharp (creator, writer, director)? Were you nervous, scared or excited?
A: Gosh, I was majorly nervous but Amber is so laid back, how could you not want to work with them. It was a blessing because I gained friendships out of that and met some pretty amazing people. I told Amber even if she didn't cast me, maybe I could sweep the set, or handle the lights! HA HA, I just wanted to hang with them. I felt like a groupie.

Q: Tell me about your first day on the set.
A: It was the most professional environment I have ever been to. They had everything ready to go, they were on schedule all the time, they had everything an actor wanted, to feel comfortable. I was amazed because they are all younger than me, but have the experience of a director or producer who has been doing this for 30 years. I'm still in awe from their work ethics and the fun I had. I felt like I was at summer camp where you learn new things and form bonds. And every single cast and crew member were like comedians, there were days when I couldn't stop laughing and I would go to bed and think about the shoot that day and laugh all night. I knew I was working with some serious actors and actresses. They were professionals, gosh, I can go on and on. I really look up to them.

Q: What age did you realize your music talent?
A: I was twelve when I first starting writing poetry, that poetry created my first evolution into hip-hop. As I got older I starting putting my poetry over beats and from there I began to create songs.

Q: Is “Gay Bash” your first song?
A: Gay bash is my first single off my upcoming album I will be releasing later this year.
Q: What inspired you to do “Gay Bash”?
A: The hate, the hypocrites, the so-called Christians and religious organizations, the discrimination, the murders and abuse.

Q: Did you feel you would receive negative feedback because you used the “Christian”?
A: No, I haven't gotten any negative feedback surprisingly and if I did it wouldn't matter, their words have no credibility. Feedback from people who hate and are ignorant is like me taking Hitler's words seriously. They have no stance or power over me and never will.

Q: What do you want your listeners to take away from “Gay Bash”?
A: I want them to take knowledge with them and to recognize that there are a lot of hypocrites in the Churches who claim to be of God but are opposite of what Jesus stood for.

Q: You stated that you classify your music as underground, please can you elaborate on this.
A: I'm only underground because mainstream hasn't caught on to my message, and I'm OK with that. I am not known on a national level yet.

Q: Who assisted you with the video?
A: Little red Pictures, they did it for a reasonable price, although the investors I hit up didn't want to pith in the money because they didn't like what Gay Bash stood for so they bailed out. I had to take all of my savings to get the video done, but I knew it had to be done. It was worth it.

Q: What did you enjoy most about doing the song and video? When is Gay Bash going to be released?
A: I enjoyed the extras, they brought me to tears, they patiently waited for hours on set without any pay. They believed in the video, I will never forget that.

Q: What is your next music project?
I'm talking with other directors for a possible film role and doing more music videos. A couple of them hit me up, but right now my priority is to finish school and get a degree.

Q: What’s the name of the music artist you enjoyed listening to? Which artist would you like to work with?
A: Michael Buble, I idolize him, he is a young Frank Sinatra but better in my opinion, his voice is flawless! I love me some Jill Scott, I have a huge crush on her, she is just amazing. I would love to work with Common, I love his style and content.

Me’lange
“JADEN”
Jaden struggles with the rapid change of identity an unexpected pregnancy can
bring. Her journey is all the more riveting because she is a butch lesbian and her
long-term partner, Melody, was born a hermaphrodite. After four years of
domestic bliss and joint ownership of the fourplex and a thriving sex shop, the
couple finds their foundation shaken to the core when Melody, the more feminine
partner, accidentally impregnates her bodybuilding, masculine-identified spouse.
