Styling, profiling, representing while changing the perception of the world. That is what Studs Clothing is about and so much more including embracing a community that often goes ignored and unheard. Schquay Brignac, Founder and Owner of Studs Clothing is making sure that this community is seen. Schquay tells Treazuremag.com about the vision that continues to manifest, being "The Stud" behind Studs, Spirituality and strength. Studs Clothing is not just a clothing line… It is a MOVEMENT!!!!

How did the concept of Studs Clothing come about?

The concept of Studs Clothing developed through me and my community called The Tribe. In the beginning, I would sew for my own individual style and liking, than my community started to inquire about my clothing style and its representation of gender expression. Through my personal experiences, I came to understand that I do not have a clothing line that defines my taste, my style and personality. So, I was inspired to create a fashion line that caters and represents the LGBT community. This would be clothing line that was produced for us by us.

What is your educational background?

I am currently in my junior year at a local community college. I am in the process of completing my requirements to transfer to UCLA in the Fall of 2009 to study herbal medicine.

Who are your role models? Why?

My role models are Martin Luther King Jr., and Gandhi because they believe in peace, non-violence, and that everyone is equal regardless of beliefs, race, gender and background. Additionally, my family, especially my Mother and my Father, are roles models because they have embedded in me a seed that is forever loving, caring, understanding, healing and family oriented. Lastly, my spiritual mentor Michael Bernard Beckwith of Agape International Spiritual Center is my role model.

What were some of the challenges that you were confronted with in being a entrepreneur, specifically addressing the lesbian community?

1. One of the challenges was the idea that “God does not like gay people.” Spectators would state that my business in the LBGT community could never be successful because it's a sin to promote homosexuality.

2. In general, being a stud, I'm not “normal” to the norms of society. Due to my short haircut and clothing style, society often has preconceived notions about my character and professional ability.

3. Within the LGBT community, specifically within the black gay community, it has been difficult for me to gain support from the older lesbian community and I am subjected disrespect from others.

How do you address them?

1. Within my spiritual connection, I have come to understand that God is genderless and that I'm a reflection of what she is and so is every other soul. For the ones who speak about God being hate or knowing hate, I have come to realize that these are things that they have been taught, but don't really understand. All I know is God is love, and I believe that as long as I'm positive and treat other souls with love, respect, peace, abundance, and gratefulness no matter what I do I will be abundant in it.

2. As far as dealing with the norm of having to be "heterosexuals," I understand that I am something new in their reality. Therefore, I make it a conscious effort to get to know them and speak with them to dispute any stereotypes they may have perceived of me. They will learn that I am a great person who loves to stay true to herself.

3. Within the black gay community, I have addressed the issue of support, by making sure that I'm different to younger black community and also by showing love and support. One of my main goals with the Studs Clothing is for it to be a friend, role model, and teacher to the black community.

How do you maintain a positive business flow? What are your keys to success?

I maintain a positive business flow with the support of my team and to understand that were all work together to bring success. In Studs Clothing, no one is better or greater than anyone else; we all have specific skills and talents that we bring to the organization. Additionally, I understand that work needs to get done. So I keep both of those things in mind. My key to success is to always go for what I want. “A closed mouth never gets fed.” I create vision boards to show my goals and to keep me on task.

Do you accept special or customized orders?

I used to. I'm now moving into the manufacturing of my clothing.

What will the future of Studs clothing bring? Will you be starting any other clothing line?

The future of Studs Clothing will be in department stores such as Macys, Nordstrom's and other clothing stores around the world. The clothing line will also be sold in Studs Clothing stores and I am currently working on two other clothing lines.

How long have you been in business? How has Studs Clothing grown since the beginning?

November of this year will mark my second year of business with Studs Clothing. January of this year has marked my year of dedication, commitment, and effort into my clothing line.

I have seen Studs Clothing grow from being just a thought in my head to now doing fashion tours, gay prides, and being recognized as a creator of studs clothing.

What are your most favorable items according to your clients?

Patch Jackets, Polo Shirts, Summer Vest, and Hats

What is your motto and/or quote that you live by?

Why wait to die and come back to accomplish your goals when you can do it all in this life time.
