TM: When did Pussy Power start?
PPP: Pussy Power is something that has been around since the beginning of time; it started at the birth of the very first woman; Eve. Her presence to Adam was powerful and with it she was able to manipulate his mind therefore changing the way we exist. All women have it but for so long, we failed to embrace it because society has been leading us to believe that we nothing but walking, talking sex symbols. Pussy Power Productions™ was started earlier this year to be somewhat of a tool to help not only women but the WORLD become aware this natural gift called Pussy Power.
TM: What is Pussy Power Productions?
Pussy Power Productions™ is a company geared towards introducing the world to the recognition of women who exude PUSSY POWER. Let me give you a brief definition of what it means to have PUSSY POWER...The mere essence of a woman possessing PUSSY POWER is addictive! EVERY WOMAN has some form of PUSSY POWER; whether or not they use it or acknowledge its presence is a different situation. PUSSY POWER IS NOT LIMITED TO SEXUAL ORIENTATION, RACE OR RELIGION!!!!...Nor is it limited by what is in her panties...It is the essence of what makes her a woman. Pussy Power is defined by every woman! It is the sex appeal that makes both men and women desire entry into the depths of her mind and hungry for the nourishment of her body. She is CONFIDENT in the skin she wears, INTELLIGENCE flows from her lips when she speaks which makes her SEXY without effort. Pussy Power Productions™ is a company that gratifies women with a line of urban gear and accessories that glorifies her presence and acknowledges the strength of her sexuality.
TM: What inspired you to start PPP?
PPP: The creation of the company was an idea I initially shared with one of my good friends. We had several names for it in the beginning but none of those names really had the ‘attention getting power’ I wanted for my company. I was in my car one day listening to a mixed CD I had burnt a while back when the song “Pussy Power” by rapper Mannie Fresh came on. I turned the music up real loud and kept riding. When the chorus dropped it was like in the movies when that little light shines over your head to mark the arrival of a new idea; I thought to myself that’s what I want I want the name of the company to be from that came Pussy Power Productions™. I fell in love with that concept of the song; I mean don’t get me wrong some of the lyrics in the song are contrary to everything Pussy Power Productions™ stands for but the premise of the song and my company are identical.
TM: What does it take for you to be a successful lesbian business owner?
PPP: They say all it takes is a dollar and dream…I believe it takes more than that. To be successful at anything it takes a will and desires to be more than you are, as well as the ability to move forward towards your dream. Anybody can dream but only a selected few will actually take those dreams and fight tooth and nail to make them a reality. You have to be willing to make some sacrifices keeping in mind that everyone won’t be as accepting of your dream as your family, friends and the people who love or care about you may have been when you pitched your idea to them. With that being said I believe it also takes the ability to be persistent even when doors are constantly being slammed in your face.
TM: What were and still are some of your obstacles?
PPP: Where do I start? (Laughing)…well I guess the biggest obstacle being faced by Pussy Power Productions, besides the obvious acceptance issue which I’ll cover in a minute, would have to be coming up with the capital needed to put into the company so that it can grow to be something more than an idea. I‘m doing what I can to resolve this issue but it’s proving itself to be challenging. The fact that Pussy Power Productions™ has such a bold presence could also be its downfall. In today’s society, the word ‘Pussy’ has a raunchy or vulgar connotation; the fact that society has such a negative view of the word ‘Pussy’, Pussy Power Productions™ stands to face a tremendous backlash as a result our designs. However, all good business purveyors are aware that all attention; including that which is not positive is consider good attention. Pussy Power Productions™ will face our oppressors head-on and use it to our advantage by taking the negative publicity and attention we stand to receive as a constructive tool which we will use to reach new heights along our path to success.
TM: What advice does she have for any other lesbian entrepreneurs?
PPP: The only advice I have to give is, don’t be afraid to fail and when you fail don’t be afraid to try it a different way or to try something new all together. There are only a few people in this world who found their success overnight and even that was said to be one of the longest nights of their lives! I believe we all have a moment in time that signifies success and for each person the time is different. When the time comes for you, you’ll know it…
